Request a Proclamation or Commendation
What is a Proclamation?
A proclamation is an official document issued by the Mayor to commemorate a specific time period (day, week, or month).
- It brings recognition, awareness, or appreciation to an issue, cause, milestone, or noteworthy event that is relevant and important to the Town of Hilton Head Island.
- Proclamations are strictly honorary and not legally binding.
What is a Commendation?
A commendation is issued to an individual or organization recognizing a milestone or an occasion of extraordinary significance and/or contributions of importance to the Town of Hilton Head Island.
Request a Proclamation or Commendation
Please consider the following information before submitting a request. The Mayor reserves the right to decline any request or make exceptions to these guidelines:
- Requests are accepted no less than eight weeks but nor more than three months in advance of the proclaimed date or presentation.
- Requests for proclamation that are similar to already issued proclamations will be declined.
- Proclamations and/or Commendations may not be used for advertisement or commercial promotion. Issuance of these documents does not indicate or imply a policy endorsement from the Town of Hilton Head Island.
- Documents will be delivered no more than two weeks in advance of the document date.
